A Touch of Cloth

Released

A Touch Of Cloth kicks off with a nice slice of tough-to-define thematic synth/sample funk, “Bugs Will Bite,” that does a brilliant switch halfway through, turning into a rubbery, retro sample cut-up disco work out, setting the tone for another Fila Brazillia album full of casually brilliant dance/electronic musical blending. It’s followed by “Airlock Homes,” which is made up of the kind of intricate interlocking bass and drum patterns most dance music producers would love to be able to programme, while woodwind, keys and synths coalesce in another lush, original musical landscape. Elsewhere you get oddball squelch + synth funk “Pigs Blood And Chalk,” “Dervish Controller,” which sounds like a prog-rock organ jam, but cool, d&b rhythms and jazz guitar on “Snakeskin Bib,” tranquil ambient moments like album finisher “Spores,” and blissed out, beach-breezy Balearica “XII.” Comprehensively high quality.
