As Above, So Below

French polymath Delphine Dora is staggeringly productive, with multiple albums released each year. But As Above, So Below feels like her major statement – a beautiful set of piano and voice performances, their spatial arrangement made curious by the production touches added by Andrew Chalk. It’s a perfect combination, really, with the sacral melodies and poised piano compositions from Dora sent out alongside huffing clouds of drone-float, stray smears of clarinet, and depth charge reverb, added by Chalk. He seems to offer just the right contexts for Dora to shine, the two artists shadowing each other perfectly.
