The Dead Milkmen’s debut was definitely a product of its mid-80s time, as some of the jokes that really weren’t even jokes then definitely don’t hold up now (“Bitchin’ Camaro” is an amazing song but let’s face it, the Doors parody bit has some issues). With that in mind, it’s still scrappy, pissed off, not quite punk but not quite new wave either, the kind of college rock that didn’t take itself as seriously as some back then. Plus, “Right Wing Pigeons” is still pretty accurate, at base.
