It goes bang-bang-bang-bang, it going boing-whoop-boing-whoop, it goes crash-crash-crash-crash… and in a sense that’s it. The absolute glory of Neil Landstrumm’s debut album is that it is boils techno down to its rawest, most basic form, and delivers it right in your face without a single unnecessary elaboration. And yet, and yet… the geometry of it is still like that of the highest of high art. This is music rooted in the basics of Black American funk, and informed by the academic studio understandings of Landstrumm’s friend Cristian Vogel - but ultimately expressing the absolute derangement of the most intense peak rave era clubs of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham and London. It rips through you like lightning, even now.
