This was the only album from City Limits, who were an offshoot of the gospel group the Overbrooks Singers. Opening track ‘People’ is a big, bold and funky take on the smooth Philadelphia soul sound with sterling vocal work from a set of serious singers, and the rest of the album continues in a mostly mid-tempo, funked-up seventies soul style along with a sprinkling of ballads full of dramatic orchestration. ‘City Limits’ features some wonderful vocal performances and strong songs, all played to perfection, qualifying it to join the list of high-quality yet mysteriously overlooked soul albums.
