One could spin a wheel of Enrico Rava’s recordings and land on a good one every time, but there’s something about 2004’s Easy Living that satisfies in an especially warm fashion. In addition to being his first album for ECM after a 17-year hiatus, it features one of his greatest bands. The Italian trumpeter’s interactions with trombonist Gianluca Petrella are the fulcrum on either side of which pianist Stefano Bollani, bassist Rosario Bonaccorso, and drummer Roberto Gatto see and saw. “Hornette And The Drums Thing” is one of many strong flavors in this feast for the ears.
