Echo & The Bunnymen

Released

The final album by the classic Echo and the Bunnymen lineup, fractured first by a breakup and then irrevocably by the tragic death of Pete de Freitas two years later, their self-titled release isn’t at the level of the astonishing quartet of full-lengths that preceded it, but as an opportunity to build on growing success and an unintended farewell, it still has much to recommend it. “Lips Like Sugar” itself should have been a full-on American success alone, while “Bedbugs and Ballyhoo” is one of their best 60s psychedelic nods, Ray Manzarek keyboards and all.
