Escape From Noise

Released

The teaming up of the art-rock/cut-up/audio theater collective of Negativland with the punk/indie label SST might have seemed a little strange, and would later end in all kinds of problems, but in 1987 it meant Negativland’s fourth album, Escape From Noise, reached the band’s largest audience yet. Collecting various shorter pieces that in their own way were some of the catchiest things the group had yet released, Escape From Noise had among its standouts the throbbing pulse of “Christianity Is Stupid,” the frenetic yelp of “Car Bomb,” and the Cold War mania of “Time Zones.”
