On Megan Mitchell’s third album under the Cruel Diagonals name, the artist continued her pursuit of exploring various possibilities of electronic sonic tension, release and catharsis, with the inclusion of a formal step opening that up further: eschewing regular lyrics as such for strictly singing vowels, then using that as the basis for all the resulting music in turn, a kind of sonic Oulipo project. With the album title further conveying the sense of seeking balances, songs range from ambient flow to intense controlled drama, a model of uneasy listening.
