In the middle of the fraught mess between Andrew Eldritch and various ex-bandmates following the Sisters of Mercy’s First And Last And Always, the former put out the single “Giving Ground” as the Sisterhood precisely so the latter would have to stop using that name (which they did, switching to the Mission instead). Said song and four more later formed the only Sisterhood album as such, a stark collection of drum machine-led performances done for legal reasons by other performers than Eldritch, including new Sisters of Mercy recruit Patricia Morrison.
