Marco Haas has been making music since the late 1990s; he’s been a punk rock drummer, an electropop producer, and a noise act. His early recordings as T.Raumschmiere run the gamut from ultra-minimal techno created from sampled vinyl crackle to industrial rock with sneered vocals; this 2017 album combined a simple instrumental palette (two or three sounds, mixed up and down over time to hypnotic effect) with a rock band’s sense of dynamics. Tracks like “Jaguar” and “Stoli” have hooky melodies, which the looping structure will drive permanently into the listener’s brain. Meanwhile, the album as a whole ebbs and flows, making for a highly pleasurable front-to-back listening experience.
