Infinite Psychic Depths

Outer Heaven named themselves after a location from Metal Gear, but it’s appropriate: they put a Hideo Kojima-esque level of thought into the backstory for their albums. Which isn’t to say you can understand any of it in Austin Haines’s bunkerbusting belch. On the surface, this seems like knuckledragging death metal, but these cavemen find some mighty fun ways to bash through the rubble — and you’d hope for that from a band with a concept album about disappointed gods destroying a failed civilization. Good luck singing along to “Pillars of Dust” or “Drained of Life;” you’ll just have to hum the species-eradicating riffs instead.
