Lithium Blast

Released

HHY And the Kampala Unit’s first album is an intensely psychedelic collision of Afro-Latin percussion, techno, dub, dancehall, and booming brass. Together it all makes for a pretty hectic and immersive soundscape, starting from the powerful blast of “Bursting Thru The Gates” — which features the Kampala Prison Brass Band — a dubby, driving march that feels like you’re about to walk into another dimension. The album is one of many projects that have come to life thanks to whatever magic happens in the Nyege Nyege villa during their famous residencies, and sees Porto musician Jonathan Saldanha of HHY & The Macumbas join forces with Kampala based trumpet player, DJ, and activist Florence Lugemwa, and percussionist Omutaba. Together they weave majestic, operatic pieces, where Omutaba’s rhythms, both organic and digital, are the only thing keeping us rooted to earth, while astral synths and Lugemwa’s soaring trumpet beam into the cosmos.
