Love Changes Everything

Released

Love Changes Everything arrived after the longest break yet between Dirty Three studio albums. Despite the band’s relatively light schedule in that 12-year interim, the chemistry shared by violinist-pianist Warren Ellis, guitarist Mick Turner and drummer Jim White seems as strong as ever on this six-part, 41-minute suite. The trio make a point of taking their time here, as on part III, where they assemble a soothing sonic environment around wisps of piano and guitar, gentle drum patter and lilting violin; Part IV, which has the feel of a ghostly abstract waltz; or Part VI, which builds across 10 minutes to a radiant gospel-meets-punk-meets–free-jazz climax. Overall, the record finds the Three following what feels like a thoroughly instinctual path through the many corners of their sound and reaffirming their uncanny musical brotherhood after more than three decades as a band.
