Lukombo Vibes

Released

By the time they released their fourth album, 1976’s Lukombo Vibes, WITCH were the undiscussed superstars of Zamrock, and, having just returned from a tour with UK based Afrorock supergroup Osibisa,  their popularity was growing abroad too. The psychedelic rock of Lazy Bones!! still comes through on this album, but the playing is tighter and funkier. One of the biggest shifts is the incorporation of local styles into their sound, reflecting the growing popularity of Afrobeat and more African sounding rock styles that were sweeping the continent at the time. At times Jagari swaps English for his local language, and the band weaves together their signature fuzzy guitar and psychedelic organ riffs with Zambian rhythms.
