Two kindred seekers open to musical cultures far different than their own, minimalist composer Terry Riley and Don Cherry never officially went into the studio to collaborate (and thus there’s no official album of these two musical giants together), but they encountered one another often in their nomadic travels. As the title suggests, this un-official tape dates from one particularly stoned encounter in Sweden in 1970. Riley’s organ is firmly in the classic time-lag accumulation of his Persian Surgery Dervishes phase, meaning Cherry doesn’t actively engage with him so much as accentuate phrases and float on top. But it’s the rare chance to hear two total musical masters from different worlds drifting through the smoke to find some common ground.
