By the time he released this album in 2013, James Hunter was fronting a band with a name: the James Hunter Six. Nothing else had changed, though: he was still playing original songs written in an explicitly old-school soul and R&B style, with tight and spare arrangements punctuated by his trademarked minimalist, stinging guitar solos. His voice is getting rougher but his pitch is more reliable; his songwriting chops are as sharp as ever.
