Música Esporádica

Released

The late Jamie Tiller’s Music From Memory was dedicated to reviving interest in any number of forgotten musicians, none more so then Spanish new age master Suso Saiz. The label reissued a slew of archival albums as well as commissioning newer works, over seven releases in total. One of the most sought from Saiz’s oeuvre was Música Esporádica, a trans-continental one-off featuring Saiz with fellow countrymen Miguel Herrero, María Villa and Pedro Estevan and American percussionist Glenn Velez and Layne Redmond. Grounded by ritualistic hand percussion (Velez was integral to Steve Reich’s ensembles at the time), each track inspires loose-limbed movement and deep introspection. It’s new-agey, but always with dark clouds growing more cumulous at the horizon. A singular entry in 1980s experimental music.
