Neighbourhood is an ASMR-friendly flash in the pan from an ad hoc group led by drummer Manu Katché. Saxophonist Jan Garbarek, trumpeter Tomasz Stanko, pianist Marcin Wasilewski, and bassist Slawomir Kurkiewicz mesh so well, it’s a wonder they never got together earlier (or since). In any event, what they produce is ear candy. With Katché at the helm, one’s expectations for subtle grooves are rewarded, but solo turns from everyone involved offer plenty to tingle over. If you ever wondered how an album might reclaim the term “smooth jazz,” this is your ticket.
