If there was a better gothic lo-fi indie-electro album made in Lagos in 2022 I’d like to hear it. Seo (aka Moonbather) creates a truly ghostly sound bringing together hints of various electronic subgeneres including an undercurrent of amapiano, a bit of chilly 00s electro-indie from a zone around Junior Boys or Nite Jewel, some Billie Eilish and even a little Rihanna at her most strung-out. It’s a heady brew, capped off with wilfully imperfect vocals close mic’ed and mixed extra dry to bring you up close to every bit of oddness and unevenness. It’s eerie as anything, and Seo truly has a style that is 100% her own. A brilliant bit of haunted world-building.
