A strong 1969 album from one of Motown’s most under-appreciated acts, and certainly one of Motown’s strongest singers. Produced by pioneering psychedelic soul producer Norman Whitfield, who got the soul stalwarts to take on some recent Motown hits including ‘Cloud 9’ and ‘(I Know) I’m Losing You’. House band the Funk Brothers provide a classic late-60s Motown backing full of rattling funky drums, congas and wah wah guitars. Knight was always a singer with a powerful, gospel-flavoured voice, able to excel at all sorts of material and it’s no different here.
