Painter's Spring

Released

Bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake began working together in the late ’90s, and in the last quarter century they have become one of the most incredible rhythm teams in jazz. This 2000 trio disc teams them up with saxophonist Daniel Carter for a hard-swinging, introspective and even spiritual set of mostly concise and tuneful free jazz workouts. In addition to six original pieces, Parker plays the gospel song “There is a Balm in Gilead” as a bass solo, and the whole group interprets Duke Ellington’s “Come Sunday.”
