Roberto Carlos

Released

Sort of a Brazilian Glen Campbell, with a touch of Caetano. What Carlos had in this period was the chord change richness of bossa nova, and the confidence of a matinee idol. The chaos and doubt of the tropicália years had an effect on even the straight pop guys like Carlos. A truly gifted singer, though, and this ultimately has a sort of Sinatra effect, an urbane kind of sensuality: nice restaurants for the right reasons (as opposed to, y’know, murdering rival capos).
