Selfless

Released

Godflesh’s third full-length, and their only one to appear on a major label (via Earache’s short-lived distribution deal with Columbia), is cleaner and more epic than its predecessor, 1991’s Pure. Justin Broadrick’s vocals are more sung than roared, the guitars soar and zoom rather than grinding and biting, and there are some quite beautiful touches here and there, like the single keyboard notes that ring out during opener “Xynoybis” and the melancholy piano on the nearly 25-minute closer, “Go Spread Your Wings.”
