Senshu

Ghosts On Water is a collaboration between Andrew Chalk, Daisuke Suzuki (who runs Siren Records) and Naoki Suzuki. Chalk is an exemplary collaborator, in that his presence is immediately identifiable from Senshu’s first seconds, but he never crowds out the other members of this trio; rather, they dissolve into each other, with Chalk’s meandering guitar lines wrapped in a thick, musty cloak of what sounds like field recordings and, perhaps, electronic treatments. It’s a bit hard to figure exactly what’s going on here, but the overarching sense is of glacial mystery, the cold chill of the sounds thawed by the deeply personal warmth of the playing.
