Siamese Dream

Famously, or maybe infamously, Billy Corgan took over the recording of the second Smashing Pumpkins album to the point that it was essentially a duo effort between him and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. But whatever the band dysfunction, the result was golden, with Siamese Dream turning into a defining of-its-time rock monster, strangely perfect for hot summer afternoons and dark nights of the soul both. The lyrics were a scene kissoff but “Cherub Rock” was a massive sonic groove of a song, “Today” almost their version of a power ballad, and deeper cuts like “Soma,” “Mayonaise” and “Silverfuck” took care of the rest.
