Sisterworld

More an auditory horror film than a straightforward rock album (though that can be applied to most of Liars’ output), Sisterworld is a mangled version of what the youths these days call “indie sleaze.” Jangly surf guitars hitting discordant lines and smashed up against woozy strings in “Here Comes All The People,” the sorrowful moaning and violent transitions of “Scissor,” and two borderline terrifying ravers “Scarecrows On a Killer Slant” (the joyfully shrieked coda of which chants “stand them in the street with a gun/AND THEN KILL THEM ALL!!!”) and “The Overachievers” round out an album filled with all the bumps in the night you could ever want and moreso. Delightfully dark happenings.
