Voigt/465 were a post-punk group from Sydney, Australia, but on first blush, you’d be forgiven for thinking they were part of the Rock In Opposition movement that flourished in Europe through the 1970s. It’s all in the song structures – carefully choreographed, their sudden cut-offs and sharp edges suggest the band members’ record collections might just house a few Henry Cow albums. They’ve got more tricks up their sleeve on Slights Unspoken, though – “Red Lock On Sea Steal” stretches buzzing, morse-code electronics, scouring feedback and an insistent bass pulse across the song’s horizon; “F1” is a seemingly improvised stretch of clatter and scrape. There’s something oddly ingenious about the whole affair, and compulsive too, as though Voigt/465 can’t settle for a moment.
