When the Chameleons first emerged with their tentative reunion in the early 2000s, the first formally recorded step, Strip, was a not-unfamiliar approach, which grew out of the fact that drummer John Lever was unable to fully rejoin for a couple of months. The remaining trio ended up working on a collection of acoustic rerecordings of selections from their back catalog, something which the sheer power of their electric arrangements would seem to argue against, but the resulting clutch of performances, plus a couple of then-new songs, retained the band’s vivid strength.
