This Brooklyn duo—Sam Haar and Zach Steinman—hit their peak with this 2013 album, a lovely balance of motion and suspension. Blondes are not unlike two other electronic duos, Berlin’s Driftmachine and England’s Fuck Buttons, both of whom use the foundation of dance music as a spine and then build their monsters radially from there. The Blondes core is basic house bump, and the Blondes instinct is to nail that to the floor and start rotating around a beat until a trance really kicks in. Their skills come in choosing a blend of organic and digital detail and letting the flavors play themselves out. This one is a sleeper classic, best played loud.
