Szenariodisk

Released

Szenariodisk was one of many releases from Oval across 1998 and 1999 that mined similar material – there were also different versions of the Aero Deko and Szenario EPs for Europe, Japan and the USA. Szenariodisk was the last iteration of this material, where Markus Popp of Oval used the Oval Process software he’d been working on and turned it loose on Oval’s own archive of sound files. From here on in, Oval albums would become more dense and abstract, but Szenariodisk does a good job of holding the balance between the more conceptually exposed work of albums like Systemisch, and the ravishing, rapidly multiplying textures Popp was now exploring. Even when Popp pulls back on the detailing, as on the hissing, relatively empty spaces of “kardio v,” the tessellations and tangles of the compositions are vivid and irradiated.
