Lateef and Lyrics Born combined more than their names when they teamed up as a duo for this progressive hip-hop landmark. The title song, where the two tongue-twisting MCs rhyme at the same time over a swampy psychedelic beat from DJ Shadow, is unlike any other song, a truly unique experience that sets the tone for this adventurous outing. Elsewhere on the album, Lateef displays his feared battle chops on “The Wreckoning,” Lyrics Born coolly talks through a quarter-life crisis on “Balcony Beach” and convene their Solesides (soon to be Quannum Projects) crew for an ode to live performance “Burnin’ Hot in Cali On A Saturday Night.” This record is best experienced in headphones and potentially under the influence of mind-opening substances.
