An example of just how versatile Il Maestro could be. Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza or ‘The Group’ were a collective of avant-garde Italian musicians formed in 1964 with one Ennio Morricone on trumpet. It was Morricone’s already established name as one of the world’s finest film composers that led to label interest in The Feed-Back’s decidedly uncommercial explorations, but the real star of this album of improv they cut in 1970 is drummer Vincenzo Restuccia, who anchors and drives the experimental wig outs with a propulsive, almost Krautrock-like groove, resulting in a record that lands somewhere between Can and Miles Davis.
