While there had been various musical visions of the Charles Dickens holiday story before 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol, Jim Henson’s creations (with a little help from Michael Caine) starred in the gold-standard version, with the characters’ usual performers and Caine further benefiting from a stellar set of songs by longtime Muppet song contributor Paul Williams. Ranging from the sweetly witty (“Scrooge,” “Marley and Marley”) to warm-hearted evocations (“One More Sleep ‘til Christmas,” “It Feels Like Christmas,” “Thankful Heart”), it’s a real delight.
