The Wind is a transcendent meeting of kamancheh (Iranian spike fiddle) virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor and baglama (an oud-like Turkish instrument) master Erdal Erzincan, recorded here for the first time in a pairing unlike any other. Over a drone provided by Ulaş Özdemir, the musicologist who aided Kalhor in his search for musical material during research trips to Istanbul, Kalhor and Erzincan improvise 12 interconnected parts of flowing enchantment. Like a variation unto itself, it breathes with the power of life to animate the body even when it no longer breathes. This is music of an inner world.
