Thee Black Boltz

Released

It would be really great if we got a new TV on the Radio album right about now, just in general. As of this writing the most we have are a recently energized and touring TVOTR, a reissue campaign, and the next best thing to a Seeds follow-up: Tunde Adebimpe’s first solo album. While his iconic vocals — often looping and layering and prone to soaring falsetto — hit a nostalgic button in the corner of the brain, the arrangements are lusher and more surprising than “the TVOTR guy’s solo album” would have you assume. The post punk of “Magnetic,” the late night torch song of “ILY,” some lovely roots rock in “God Knows,” and the ghostly choral pop of “Drop.” There’s a lot being thrown at a casual listener but long time acolytes will be sold from note one.
