Yard Work

The debut album from Pretty Girls Make Graves’ Nate Thelen’s new project with Ambulance Ltd.’s Marcus Congleton found the pair luxuriating in a warm, country-tinged sound that was far removed from the more angular noise of Thelen’s previous band. On Yard Work, Drug Cabin’s soft-focus harmonies gently collide on a lolloping, laid back set of songs whose fuzzy-minded mix of dream pop and Americana at times recalled a pleasing amalgamation of Wilco, White Album-era Beatles, and, on the elastic bass-line strut and pedal steel shimmer of Hollywood, a country rock Roxy Music.
