Edited and recontextualized from a May 2020 set on the streaming NTS station, hybtwibt? is a striking and often profoundly moving example of Space Afrika’s dedication to 21st century electronic and ambient exploration with deep roots. Beginning with the at once calming and mysterious “self,” hybtwibt? collages soft textures, gentle keyboard parts and a feeling of contemplation with highly clipped bursts of vocals or noise amid fuller vocal parts and samples, creating the feeling of energy pulsing below the surface, a mix of life, action and reaction.
