Anthony Naples made a name for himself in the early ‘10s on the strength of a run of blocky house bangers. But he’s also nurtured a parallel path as a producer with a knack for making rewarding full-lengths suited to home listening rather than nights out. His fifth album, Orbs, is his most mature to date, exploring the more contemplative side of electronic music. It builds on the Balearic foundation of last year’s Chameleon and pushes further in its evocation of ‘90s ambient electronic, downtempo, and trip-hop textures. Like his mentor Four Tet, Naples is patient in his builds and his dissipations, always mindful to make his music emotionally evocative.
