Peckham multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and producer cktrl entered the London scene in 2015, but he quickly felt disillusioned by the commodification of Black art and the gentrified “boilerroom” scene. Since then he’s been evolving and exploring new and surprising directions, turning to his own life and his community for inspiration. On robyn he delved into a painful breakup, creating a feeling of intimacy and profound vulnerability across his six compositions that artfully bring together elements of jazz, classical, and contemporary experimental music. With his clarinet and sax, and with the delicate piano playing of Duval Timothy, he weaves deep, expansive soundscapes that are at once deeply personal and related to his own experience, yet universally appealing.
