A Day at the Races

If 1976’s A Day At The Races could only be seen in comparison to A Night At The Opera, in both title and album art Queen weren’t trying to hide anything – and if it ain’t broke, why fix it. Still, without a “Bohemian Rhapsody” driving it it was more of a good continuation than an evolution, as ever showcasing all four members’ songwriting and performing. The opening Brian May-written “Tie Your Mother Down” is a solid seventies rock boogie but Freddie Mercury steals the show with his open tribute to gospel singing, the yearning desire of “Somebody To Love.”
