Barbieri likes the same high midrange keyboard sounds as Aphex Twin: harpsichords, bright Rolands, loud software timbres. She favors arpeggios and repetitive patterns, and a style of echo and delay that recalls both early acid and minimalism: small machine and small orchestra at the same time. Her sense of pacing is her own—these tracks have none of the jittery OCD vibes of Aphex and the IDM boys. On Ecstatic Computation, she reveals a sense of the ecstatic at a human, legible pace. Really sumptuous music.
