Dungeon synth-style production usually saps the life out of anything it’s applied to. Poison Ruïn somehow use it to cloak their crusty punk in a fog of war. They come from either Philadelphia or the same field in England where Ben Wheatley set his medieval psychedelic horror flick of that name. Either way, they take Wipers-style warfare and make something fresh out of several moldy genres. Broken-muffler Motör-punk like “Torture Chamber” intermingle with post-punk gems like the title track — if the songs weren’t worth a damn, all the atmosphere in the world wouldn’t mean a thing. On their sophomore full-length, they reap a bounty.
