Manuel Cardoso: Requiem, Lamentations, Magnificat & Motets

Composer
Released

There are several very fine recordings of Manuel Cardoso’s Requiem Mass currently on the market, but it’s hard to imagine any surpassing the quality of this performance by the Cupertinos ensemble. Much of this group’s effort is dedicated to bringing neglected Portuguese polyphony to light, but while this work can hardly be characterized as “neglected,” they still bring new light to in with their admirably dedicated performance. The program also includes selections from Cardoso’s setting of the Lamentations for Maundy Thursday and a handful of motets.
