Radical art doesn’t have to mean harsh or worthy art. In the 2010s, along with the likes of Elysia Crampton, Arca, Chino Amobi and fellow Texan Rabit, adopted Berliner J’Kerian Morgan aka Lotic was in the vanguard of a wave of electronic music that addresses racial, sexual, class and gender politics head on. But it did so with all the narcotic bodily thrills that make every successful club genre what it is. So yes, there is brutality here – car-engine grind hard dubstep wobbles (“Resilience”), screeches over heavy metal drumming (“Power”) – but they’re instantly thrilling in the way of grime or jungle, and they’re interwoven with sounds and melodies that are just straight-up beautiful to boot, as is this album taken all together.
