The first Supremes album not to feature Diana Ross, 1970’s Right On includes three classic singles in Up The Ladder To The Roof, The Loving Country and Everybody’s Got The Right To Love. Ross’s replacement Jean Terrell possessed a similar light, delicate soprano voice to her predecessor but to my ears, Terrell has way more depth and versatility than Miss Ross, and she certainly dominates the album — it’s rumoured that the other two Supremes Mary Wells and Cindy Birdsong didn’t contribute much — but it’s still a sophisticated and highly listenable Motown collection and a strong start to the Supremes seventies output.
