Rush Hour

Released

Blues singer Bobby Rush had already been playing on the blues/R’n’B live circuit since the 50s when he put out his first album at the end of the seventies. Released by sophisticated soul label Philadelphia International Records, it’s easily one of the rawest, funkiest albums they ever put out, with Rush’s blues harp and impassioned voice riding on top of a set of hard-rocking blues-funk, with hardly any of the usual sweeping orchestration you’d expect from PIR. A great combination of pristine Philly soul and raw Southern funk, with the merest hint of disco.
