Featuring some of songwriters’ Gamble & Huff’s most socially aware lyrics, tackling themes like slavery, the environment and corruption, it’s also one of Sigma Studio’s most progressive productions: the backwards reverb on the vocals and the on/off trick on the reverb on the bassline on ‘For The Love Of Money’ still sound fresh today. At times joyous, at times serious, ‘Ship Ahoy’ is pristinely arranged, opulently orchestrated, classic seventies soul.
