Bloc Party’s debut album became a defining document of 2000s UK indie rock, something that wore its various postpunk inspirations thoroughly openly on its sleeve. But if the band rapidly became Kele Okereke’s vehicle first and foremost soon afterward, the original quartet embraced a careening, spiky energy evident throughout on songs like “Helicopter,” “She’s Hearing Voices” and especially “Banquet,” the album’s defining cut with a tight arrangement and vocal acrobatics in full flight.
