2000s Blogrock

I was there. And so were you, most likely, if you’re reading something called “2000s Blogrock” on a website dedicated to recommending and archiving music. Post 9/11, all music shifted with the culture, and indie music especially started to have another renaissance thanks to the rise of blogs and websites like Pitchfork, Stereogum, Consequence of Sound, and countless others. Acts were made or broken by decimal points, you could get away with doing your best Christgau impression in favor of actually talking about the record you’re listening to, and the music itself started to explode with noisy experimentation. Add to this the rise of file sharing and you could spend surprisingly very little time online and scoop up as much new music as humanly possible. A lot of these things still exist. A lot of these people still, too. For the kids coming up from behind to the edge protectors on the verge of losing the battle, the years between 2001-2010 was, and will always be, the wild west of independent music.
